Voltage Music & Shockman Support BLN-FM

Voltage Music and SF producer Shockman are supporting independent Berlin radio station and magazine BLN-FM.

Shockman’s “Shockout (Bakir Deeper Dub Remix)” appears on BLN-FM’s new Travelling Gems Volume 2 compilation.

So what is BLN-FM?

BLN.FM was founded in 2009 with the goal to supply Berlin with what it lacked before: an independent media platform with a focus on electronic music and city life. BLN.FM is organized as an unincorporated association which not only provides a network for connecting the editorial and other supporters of BLN.FM, but also serves as contact point for commercial partners and cultural institutions. BLN.FM is financed through membership rates, donations and voluntary work of its many supporters and friends.

With currently 60 members of staff, all coming from different parts of the broad field of media, BLN.FM is strongly connected to the creative culture of Berlin; the engagement of everyone involved is idealistic. The core team coordinates the many editors, writers and speakers. Every week, the editorial department for music chooses the best new releases to be aired on BLN.FM. The great experience of the editors in the music business and their subcultural roots deliver a wide range of styles in the program – also, that may be the reason why BLN.FM usually comes up with new music some weeks earlier than others.

Both the web magazine and the 24/7 broadcast are available through the website http://www.bln.fm/ while the radio program is also being broadcast via FM on the local frequency 88,4 with approximately 15.000 listeners every hour. Furthermore, the program is available through various internet radio services all over the world and consistently listed among the top ten stations for electronic music on aggregation sites such as radio.de. This success of BLN.FM as a non-commercial and independent radio station is, of course, motivating for everyone involved. Berlin needs a medium that reflects the attitude of the city – BLN.FM meets this challenge.

Praise For Dub & Shockman

Check out Charlie Bertsch of Souciant Magazine’s great review and analysis of Shockman’s “Shock The Sound EP”!Bertsch discusses the current landscape for dub music and how Shockman’s EP is perfectly timed to represent its future!

Now is the time for dub. No genre of popular music is better suited to the exigencies of contemporary cultural production. Technology is inexpensive and easy to come by, but people make things hard. Simply finding a way to meet in person, to play together, seems to require a complexity of scheduling worthy of a railroad dispatcher. Factor in the geographic dislocations that disperse potential bandmates hundreds, even thousands of miles away, and the appeal of constructing music with pre-existing elements, piece by piece, layer by layer, is clear.

Shockman Bio & Release Info

Voltage Music presents the debut solo EP from San Francisco producer Shockman (a.k.a. Ron Nachmann). His track “Oh Mi Natty” was featured on the ‘09 Voltage compilation Dub For The Dancefloor: Voltage Remixed and Unreleased. Previous Shockman titles include “Whatever” with Stellar Trax Sound System on Urban Revolutions: The Future Primitive Sound Collective compilation (2001), “Murther EP” with Jackie’s Army (Voltage Music, 2004) and “Kalimba Rock” with Dub I.D. on the Stateside Steppas compilation (Space Audio, 2010).

Shockman is known for punchy, sample-heavy tracks that blend Jamaican dub and dancehall elements with future bass programming. His tunes are perfect for a steppers dub club or a big dubstep rave. Shockman has DJed extensively, sharing the stage with Andrew Weatherall, Thievery Corporation, Tino Corp, Fila Brazilia, Gotan Project and Zion Train. Hear more Shockman music on his Soundcloud page.

Remixes:
Dubmatix: Canada’s Dubmatix has released several solo albums and dozens of singles as well as his own reggae producer sample packs. His “Electrocution Remix” of Shockout will please traditional and steppers dub heads with its steady kicks, keyboard chops, fluid bass and incredible echoes.

earlyw~rm: Toronto, Canada’s earlyw~rm is a talented reggae producer and live musician who twists traditional dub arrangements into modern psychedelic creations. His previous EP for Voltage is the label’s best selling title and he recently released his debut album Natty Driod on Dubmatix’s Renegade Media label.
